Suicide is a deeply emotional and complicated subject that touches many lives. While it’s hard to fully understand why someone might feel driven to end their life, exploring psychological theories can shed light on the factors that might lead to such feelings and actions.

My abuse started 10 years ago, and all it took was one pill to send me down a different path while I was undiagnosed, unmedicated, and under informed.

Imposter Syndrome and its nasty friend perfectionism have a way of burrowing into your self-conscious and reinforcing the negative beliefs you have about your value and ability to perform. While feelings of self-doubt are normal every now and again, when your negative thoughts about your abilities and worth become persistent it may be time to address the adverse effects it’s having on your life. If you’ve ever felt that creeping sense of dread that maybe you’re not good enough, tell it to creep back away. You are valuable and Imposter Syndrome is not an invincible monster.

The start of summer often brings a positive shift in mood. As summer comes to an end and school is about to start, it’s normal for some people to experience a shift in mood again.

BUT! Even though the end of summer can be challenging, there’s still plenty of time to make the most of the remaining season. This is an excellent opportunity to spend time outdoors, soak up some sunshine, and re-evaluate your goals and habits to better prepare for the upcoming seasons that may impact mental health.

According to a 2023 study by Pew Research Center study 46% of American employees don’t use all their PTO. The reasons run the gamut; not wanting to get behind at work, not wanting to let coworkers down or let them carry your weight, sometimes the reason isn’t even focused, it’s just general guilt! It’s estimated that about 9% of the United States population, or nearly 29 million people will experience an eating disorder in their lifetime. With such high numbers, it’s strange to see eating disorders in the shadows or only being discussed on sensationalized programs focused on extraordinary cases of weight gain or loss, when usually a person with an eating disorder doesn’t present as alarmingly over or underweight. In fact, less than 6% of people with an eating disorder are considered medically underweight.

Mental health is something that affects everyone. Whether you are the one struggling or you know someone who is, learning about mental health can help all of us heal together.

This Halloween season, we are giving you some spooky self care tips to help combat those mental health monsters.

While you’re in a bad mental situation, you may think there is nothing you can do to pull yourself out of that slump. In these situations, it is easy to let those bad thoughts get the best of you. However, the best thing you can do for yourself during these situations is assess the root and cause of what’s making you feel down.

When thinking of age-related health issues, physical infirmity probably springs to most people’s minds; however, seniors are also prone to mental health disorders. Another exciting transition is retirement, which many people anticipate with enthusiasm but might trigger or exacerbate mental health issues.

Addiction often goes hand in hand with mental health issues. When a person has two or more substance use and mental health disorders, this is called “co-occurring disorders” or “dual diagnosis.” The two disorders can begin at the same time, overlap or begin one after the other.
